This is my “Create Atmosphere with Value” exercise, heavy on the left, light on the right.
Both of these paintings depict clouds. The first is a cloud that often appears before strong winds blow inland in the north. Clouds are relatively tall in shape and constantly changing in shape. The second shows the last few white clouds on the beach before it rains. Dark clouds were already looming in the distance, approaching the shore.
Both of these images are my imagination. I grew up in Beijing, the picture of the first painting often seen. My grandparents live in Shenzhen, Guangdong province, and I often go there, too. I like the scenery of the seaside very much, which is the content of the second picture.
The above is my element source, I will talk about my creative inspiration below.
To be honest, I was depressed when I made my first painting. There are things I don’t like and I’m under a lot of pressure. So the color of the painting is very heavy, which may be a reflection of my mood. As for the second work, I was in a good mood from conception to painting, so the light color may reflect my state. This may also be because of my heart of the sea, I really have not seen the sea for a long time.
And finally I want to thank Xiaoqing Zhu. She helped me with an important drawing technique. She told me that the color of the sky should be heavier than the clouds, silhouettes the clouds with the background color of the sky. This is very important in my work, thank her very much!
