Work concept
We painted a mural for the last big assignment at the end of the semester. I felt satisfied with this work, which was the semester’s answer to myself. It wasn’t finished, but I still felt proud and fulfilled.
The theme of our painting is “exploration and essence”, which is also a nurturing concept of Moonshot. The circle in the middle represents all the unknowns and possibilities, and the hands-on side connects the two sides of the image, representing the people exploring the moon together. In the left half of the scene, the wind and the illusionary branches indicate exploration, while the roots rooted in the ground indicate the essence. In the middle, there is a human face, as if we are rooted in the land but can still roam in the unknown and explore the possibilities. In the right half of the scene, an astronaut is in the universe, surrounded by rivers of stars and planets. This is like our life of us as Moonshot, learning and exploring our own world in the vast universe.
We hope this mural will allow those who see it to feel such an idea and the uniqueness of belonging to Moonshot.
Process
In the beginning, we chose a massive wall and formed an extensive group of people. We spent a long time brainstorming about our theme for the wall and what we would add to the picture, but there was no unity in the results for a long time.
In the end, we decided on the theme of exploration and essence and divided the discussion into two parts, with a circle representing infinite possibilities in the middle and a hand linking the two sides. With this division of labour, we quickly settled on a sketch of the two sides.
After finalizing the sketches, we quickly put them together and started to prepare the drawing on the wall.
Below are some fragments in the creative process~
In the end, we experienced conflicts, laughter and many things in this group work. We didn’t have a good grasp of time in the beginning, so we started to put up the wall very late, and we didn’t do a reasonable division of labour, so some people didn’t have anything to do at some time. I hope we can arrange the time better and have a reasonable division of labour next time.
